Member Conferences

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide volunteer organization with over 900,000 members in 45,000 conferences in 130 countries on five continents. These members have chosen to dedicate some of their time to people in our world who are poor, forgotten or oppressed. They seek, through justice and charity, to make a difference in the world and to bear witness to the power of the Christian faith. Their loving, generous work is manifested in many ways: Vincentians selflessly provide their needy brothers and sisters with friendship, food, shelter and financial or other assistance as is needed and possible to give. Members serve the poor by providing comfort much in the same way as Jesus did many years ago, through person-to-person contact with the needy, the lonely and the sick.

Some people need food or help with the rent or utility bills, while others need a working refrigerator or a bed for their children. Still others simply need a friend, someone with whom to share a few hours, or they need referrals to other agencies that can better meet their particular needs. Vincentians work to fill the particular needs of their own parish communities. In most cases, they conduct home visits to see first-hand the needs of a given family. It is often during these person-to-person visits that Vincentians discover more needs than were originally discussed.

A conference is the Society's basic unit of organization with all conferences coming under the guidance of a hierarchical administrative body. Starting from the top, the governing bodies are:
